MICHAEL KEROPIAN BRONZE SCULPTURE
Houdon's L'Ecorche Restoration and Casts
Before
After
The life-size version was made from an original Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741- 1828) sculpture sometime during the turn of the 20th Century. "Houdon" and a Caproni Cast mark can be seen on the base. There are noticable "piece-mold" seams as well on the figure, so the detail is very good. The total height of the figure with the base is six feet, and the arms are Roman jointed so they can be removed.

In 1996, Mr. Keropian was asked to restore the National Academy of Design's Houdon L'Ecorche plaster life-size figure. Apart from the obvious deterioration of the Houdon sculpture, he was missing both his arms.We were unable to find a left arm to include in our cast, so the left arm was created by Mr. Keropian and not Houdon. The sculptor chose to alter the fingers slightly so as not to elude to it's originality. We would appreciate anyone helping us to find an original left arm, or a cast which we might make a mold.

Polyester resin copies of the Houdon L'Ecorche figure and a smaller 29" version (below) are available on request. Please inquire about pricing. These five images above are of the life size figure and one on the bottom right shows the 29" version next to the life-size.

The Houdon L'Ecorche 29 inch high resin figure (shown below). The right arm is removable.
"L'Ecorche Combattant" by Eugene Caudron (1818- 1865), originally created in 1845.

This figure is 27" high and the same scale as the 29" Houdon figure above and is available in white resin.
